Sell Your Instrument on Consignment

Warranty on Instrument Sales

1) Appraisals for your Instrument
We provide professional appraisals of your musical instrument in person. Our appraisals are written, signed and dated three part documents describing the attributes and condition of the instrument being appraised. They are made on the basis of replacement cost, for insurance purposes. We provide you with two copies and retain one in our records, should you ever need to have us provide assistance in the case of a loss.

The value of a musical instrument is determined by who made the instrument, the condition, age and whether the case and accessories are original. We examine the instrument to determine these attributes and assess the overall value of the instrument. We also take into account whether the instrument has belonged to a famous musician or historical figure, was purchased under special circumstances or has some other attribute that might give it a premium value, provided there is a legitimate written documentation.

If you can bring your instrument to us in person, that is preferable. If not, we request that you send each instrument in a separate box, fully insured and well packed to prevent damage. We will carefully inspect and evaluate the instrument, then pack and return the instrument to you. Our fee is $50.00 per instrument which covers our examination of the instrument and documentation, creating and providing a written and signed appraisal, keeping that appraisal on file for the forseeable future, and providing you with a duplicate, or updated appraisal in the future.

9) Sell Your Instrument On Consignment We have over 30 years of experience in selling musical instruments on a consignment basis.
We welcome student through professional instruments. Your instrument will be kept in our climate and humidity controlled office and is insured against loss or damage. We recommend that you maintain any insurance coverage you may have on your instrument in case you decide to have the instrument returned to you. Your instrument will be played and adjusted on a regular basis by our staff to maintain its playing condition.
While there are no guarantees, we can estimate the length of time it will take to sell your instrument when we see and play it. Usually, a few months are needed to get the word out and allow interested players to arrange financing. Please be aware - it may take much longer than a few months to sell your instrument. We will do all we can but can not guarantee a sale. If your instrument is not attracting any interest, we will be happy to discuss possible reasons for this with you, and suggest options. We will attempt to sell your instrument for as long as you feel comfortable leaving it with us. If you prefer to have your instrument back at any time there will be no charge. It can be returned only to you, or a designated person with a signed letter from you allowing the return.
We'll appraise your instrument when it arrives and let you know what we think. Together, we can decide on the price at which it will be listed. If you feel that there is some leeway in the final price, we will not go below the lowest price you've indicated without your express permission. The price that we set together is the price the customer will pay. Our commission will be deducted from the final selling price.
Before we offer your instrument for sale, we require that it be in the best possible physical and playing condition. We recommend having it repaired, cleaned and adjusted. We can not begin the sale of your instrument until it is in proper selling condition. We can make most repairs right here on the promises, and if we can't, we are happy to recommend highly regarded repair persons who will put your instrument into good condition. The cost of repair, cleaning and adjustment, should they be necessary, are due when the service is completed and are not part of the commission fee.
When we find a buyer for your instrument, we finalize the sale, cash their check, wait until it clears the bank (generally 10 to 14 days) and send you the full amount minus our commission. Your payment for the sale of the instrument will be provided in one company check as soon as possible after the sale is completed. We do not provide payment in cash, however, we can offer credit on anything in the shop.

We charge 20% of the final sale price. The percentage is deducted from the final sale price of your instrument, after the sale. There is no fee if we do not sell your instrument.
